It quickly became clear that all the people involved were very demanding – also when they and their own services were concerned. Everybody wanted – and we all knew we had to – leave behind the ‘higher-further-faster’ mentality. And no one wanted anything ‘artificial’. And it was important to everyone to make sure that everything is done because of a serious conviction that comes from deep down. And that has to be tangible and visible for the guests. P.N. ⁄ Despite the fact that Garmisch-Partenkirchen is mostly known

due to its significance as a host of winter sports events, we have the most overnight stays in the summer months. This shows that Garmisch-Partenkirchen truly is an all-year-round destination. We are lucky to be surrounded by great nature where activities are possible all year round and to have attractive events and a diverse cultural program on offer, too. L.L. ⁄ Thinking of regular major events like the FIS Ski World Cup and the New Year’s Ski Jumping event, how important are they for Garmisch- Partenkirchen’s winter tourism? P.N. ⁄ Such events are very important for us indeed, especially because they show our winter sports competence. Of course we are happy about the great prominence, the extensive media coverage and the many guests that bring a great atmosphere with them. But our guests profit from it directly as well. The range of sports possibilities is developed on a high level, look at the development of the Kandahar-track for Alpine Ski World Championship, for example. We still profit from the long tradition of events. Apart from the great winter sports events we organize summer- and culture events in GaPa, too. And with our experienced congress-center team numerous conventions, trade fairs, conferences, festivals and much more are successfully carried out here. Our partners value that and they like to utilize the know-how, contacts and professional support anywhere between organization and technical execution offered by the GaPa Convention team. L.L. ⁄ Does the fact that Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a ‘health resort with a therapeutic climate’ attract a special target group? P.N. ⁄ Well, everybody who stays here profits from the healthy climate, of course. But with our health segment we also offer special programs in the areas of therapy, healthy holiday and corporate health promotion. This starts with guided hikes on the altitude trails and also includes individual therapy solutions and tailored health weeks for company members. The demand is huge – and growing. People’s health-consciousness keeps growing and our staff from the health department is always happy to offer their knowledge and competence.
