Oder … engl. ⁄ Since 2003 it has been enchanting locals and guests of Garmisch-Partenkirchen alike: Chocolaterie Amelie! Seriously spoilt for choice: 40 types of homemade broken chocolate, 30 types of hand-scooped chocolate bars, drinking chocolates and 50 types of filled chocolates. ‘But we also offer figurines like our new and remarkably real-looking chocolate tools’ is what the owner, Franz Kässer, tells us. His recipe for success: only the best raw materials are used to make individual chocolate creations by hand and by now there are two stores you can try them at – in Garmisch’s pedestrian zone and in Partenkirchen’s Ludwigstrasse. Franz Kässer likes to find inspiration for new creations while he travels, to France, the N ° 1 Gourmet-Nation, for example – but it’s also personal preferences and the latest trends that influence what is handed over the counters in his lovely shops. Franz Kässer smirks as he easily admits to the fact that as a salesman it can indeed be hard to resist the temptation: ‘Of course the boss has to sample his products personally!’. According to scientific studies this must make him a very happy man, many substances contained in chocolate are proven to prompt the production of happiness hormones in the brain. The dark colored ‘food for the gods’ is even said to be an aphrodisiac and to prevent heart disease. And because

it’s not about consuming huge amounts but simply about indulgence, eating sweets does not have to be a cause for guilty conscience. Franz Kässer recommends real gourmets to try extraordinary creations like ‘Gapalade’ – a creation that contains alpine herbs and was especially produced for Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Or a 75% chocolate from Tanzania that goes well with red wine. Or a grand-cru chocolate where the coarse cocoa and raw sugar crystals slowly melt on your tongue. Or… Kulinarik & Bars
